I started working a few days a week at Dimension 74 Salon in Peachtree City. It's great. I love it there. It's been really good because I only work on Dusky's days off for a few hours and he stays home with the girls. They Love their day with dad. But my blogging has suffered as a result of this change.
So I'm WAY late on posting this...or anything, but better late than never.
On New Years Eve we went to the Zac Brown Band Concert. It was soooo good. But the girls had been sick for a few days. Sienna got sick first and as she was getting better Eja started getting sick. Sienna got better on her own so I thought it would be the same thing with Eja. By Friday morning she was sounding pretty congested so I tried to call the Dr but they had closed because of the holiday. So I thought Eja would be fine until monday and if she was still feeling sick I would take her in.
My parents took the girls while we went to the concert. We left a little bit early and on our way home my dad called and said he thought we needed to take Eja to the hospital. By the time we got to my mom and dad's house it was about 12:30am. Eja hadn't fallen asleep AT ALL. She was so tired but she couldn't breathe. She was wheezing so bad. Dusky had to go to work at 4am (3 hours away) so he went to sleep for a little while and my dad went with me to take Eja to the ER.
The ER on New Years Eve/Day is a fun place to be. We walked in and it was completely packed. But you could hear Eja trying to breathe from across the room. Her wheezing was so loud. Plus, she was trying to cry, but she couldn't get any air in. It was the saddest thing i've ever seen. They took us into the back immediately. They tested her oxygen levels and she was at 60 something percent. They took her into a room and the respiratory therapist came in. By this time she was screaming. I'm not sure what he was all hopped up on, but he told us that she was NOT wheezing and he left the room. My dad and I were looking at each other like "What the heck just happened?" So I finally got her calmed down and my dad got the guy to come back in and he's like "She's wheezing really bad, we need to get her on some oxygen!" ya think? Anyways, They put her on oxygen and she started to calm down a bit. Her levels went right back up to 100%. She PASSED OUT! She was so tired. They came in and gave her an hour long breathing treatment and then put her back on the oxygen. She slept through all of this.
By this time it was about 6:00am. My dad and I had been up for over 24 hours and I was starting to feel it.
The doctor came in and took her off the oxygen and her levels dropped back down. She said that she was calling for an ambulance to transport us up to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta. So about 8:30 that morning the ambulance got there. They let me go with them, but I had to ride in the front. It was pretty sad. They were strapping her to the bed and she was screaming. They ended up having to give her breathing treatments on the ride to the hospital but by the time we got up there she was doing a lot better. Her oxygen levels had gone back up and the doctor told me they were going to give her one breathing treatment and then they would probably let us go home. During her breathing treatment she took a turn for the worse. It was pretty scary. She had her oxygen mask on but her level kept dropping lower and lower. Finally she was in the low 80's and all of her alarms were going off. The Doctor, the nurse, and the respiratory therapist came running in. They turned her oxygen up and told us we would not be going home. So they admitted us and got us into a new room. They checked her ears and she had an ear infection too so they put her on antibiotics. By that time my mom came. She took over for a little while and I went down to the cafeteria and got some food. They put the little oxygen tubes in Eja's nose and she was NOT happy about it. She was crying and pulling them out every two seconds. It was tiring.
By that night I had been up for about 38 hours. Dusky called and asked if I had put his flight back on the ground by my dad's truck because his $1200 headset just got ran over. I started BAWLING my eyes out and at that point Dusky knew I was on the verge of a breakdown. He called in to work, told them what was going on, and used his sick days for the next two days. He drove right up to the hospital. By the time he got there I seriously thought I was going to die. He took Eja and I went and laid on the couch/bed. I was OUT. I'm usually a light sleeper but it wasn't until the next morning that I found out Eja had a rough night. They came in every two hours and her alarms kept going off when she would fall asleep so they had to keep coming in and turning up her oxygen.
Sunday was a better day. Eja did pretty good during the day. They turned her oxygen down a lot. But everytime she fell asleep they would have to come back in and turn it up. They wouldn't let us go home until she could sleep without having to be on oxygen.
The girls were missing us by that point so Carrie and Jesse brought them up and we all had a sleepover in the hospital room. Eja did pretty good that night so they let us go home Monday.
I had to make a check up with her pediatrician for Tuesday. When I went in they tested her oxygen levels because she was still kind of wheezy and she was 93. I was scared that they were going to send us back to the hospital but they did another breathing treatment and it helped. So she put her on a steroid and we had to give her breathing treatments for a few days at home.
Now Da Baby Eja is back to her good old self.
She was such a trooper. We love her so much and hope we don't EVER have to do that again!
